3rd Thursday meeting, June 22, 2006, meeting Notes
—————————————-
Ideas for weeks to come:
Discussion of books that relate to this subject; use some of these books as a model.
I can do what I am supposed to do, but there is so much more joy in helping the whole body does that together.
America: has a notion that we are going to “get there” high up, the head of something CEO or Pastor.
Jesus: If you really want to be great you got to be washing peoples feet…
What you Father sees in secret he rewards you openly.
Ian reads from
1 Cor. 12:
Different GIFTS
God hands out gifts of His spirit to whom He chooses and all will benefit…
We want to do the things that are more visual, but it gets blown up into self-importance. BUT NO PART IS IMPORTANT ON ITS OWN.
Stacy:
You can’t find your purpose without community” you can’t separate community form GOD. Called Clint in the middle of the night expressing “I have to go”. Clarity- God is calling us to go, but we need clarity. A calling doesn’t have a period after it, it has a comma. A community will give clarity. Live out the scripture (Corinthians and Acts…)
Getting rid of distractions, may be an important one, but we need to stay faithful. Clarity and Consistency. Living more purposefully. Needing to confess to each other. Wants that to be a part of what we do. We feel like we should be past some of the things we are wrestling with. Being vulnerable. Back in the day confessing your faith you would get killed.
Acts 5-8 Miracles, life, community, tribulation,
CNN- talks about prices of nursing homes –$75,000 a year
We are not even willing to live with or take care of our own family members here in America.
Confession of the right the that he is Lord and confessing our faults to each other…this is learning to trust people again.
That takes a commitment: to have real friends—Clint
Ian- discusses church hopping…to grow you have to have roots.
Acts 5-7 Saul becomes a Christian, tell s him to go to the house, his community, his teacher, but there was a struggle to get there, and persecution together.
Be flexible to let people go wherever they need to go. Speak into each other’s lives. Being accountable to each other.
Location is important—be open to mobility—persecution starts in Acts 8
Monks and Nuns were some of the greatest ministers of the western world in the Franciscan age—from living together in community.
Community not roommates…\ Ian discusses Ecclesia: when he lived together here they all had different visions, not much supervision, and all doing their own things.
Clint: Disciplines in living the gospel. Life is experiencing the fact: it is better to give than to receive, and better to be a servant. Deny yourself.
Fake fruit:
Call to repentance all the time. When you confess to someone else it causes you grow.
Book: “LIFE TOGETHER” D. Bohnhoffer, discusses confession and communion together. You have to bring your sin to the light of God and others.
The origin of tradition of the liturgy was a great idea in the first place, and has strayed away from its truth.
Bringing the WORD of Jesus Christ to each other not our own words.
Consistency of being feed by each other.
We believe a lie of individual salvation—
Jesus says Salvation has arrived to this house—encounter the kingdom.
Follow me: the disciples call—drop what you are doing!
People seeing the power in us— that’s how people will see God.
He is chasing after people.
Clint–Poem : the “Hound of Heaven” with eyes of fire that chases after him everywhere he goes…
God is saying change, and the natural and the supernatural will aid in the transformation.
“This is the only week that I can be a Christian”
A church member said about going to a “work week”/summer retreat with son for the past 12 years continues to go…
Active love- hospitality—you must have to be a Christian.
Giving of ourselves not just giving money to the homeless guy on the street.
Next week: to discuss and make plans for meeting the needs of the homeless in our community.
